Herbster Anagama Wood Fire Ceramics Workshop

The Anagama Kiln - Filled with ceramic art and ready to be fired!Welcome to Mike Weber's clay workshop homepage. Each summer participants and visiting artists join Weber at his forest studio in beautiful Bayfield County, Wisconsin, for a 16-day workshop that teaches the process of firing a traditional Anagama kiln. The workshop site is located six miles inland of Lake Superior on 90 acres of pristine wilderness bordering the Chequamegon National Forest. The kiln is 24-feet long and was built in 1995 after Weber's many trips to Japan where he visited artists who fired in this traditional method.

Mike Weber has been wood-firing for over forty years at his studio in the forest of northern Wisconsin. He has exhibited his work throughout the United States, in Europe and Japan. 2010 will be the 23rd summer he has conducted his wood-fire workshop.

A number of Weber's pieces are available for purchase online at Mike Weber Clay.

Weber retired from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire in 2004.

2010 workshop dates are June 13 - 27

The workshop fee ($545) includes on-site camping (rental cottages are also available nearby), 250 lbs. clay, materials, wheel-throwing, hand-building, glazing, and firing.

Credits for the workshop may be available through the University of Wisconsin-Superior.
